WHAT NEXT FOR AJMAL KASAB ?

Every time I hear the name of Ajmal Kasab, my Blood pressure shoots up very badly. Not even a child in India needs a introduction about this terrorist, his blue t shirt and machine gun. He will not remember how many people he would have killed. Of course there is no need for him to keep a count. Today he can consider himself as the luckiest terrorist in the world.,better than Osama Bin Laden who has to hide in mountains and dens as a democratically elected government is treating this terrorist as its state guest.

In the name of democracy, judiciary and fair trail, the government has given him a lawyer to defend. I cant understand what ajmal kasab and his lawyer have to defend? Are they going to say that some impersonation has taken place, he is not the man shown in the picture, and police have made a wrong arrest. One shocking fact is that the lawyer is paid a whooping 50,000 or 5000 rupees fees per month/per day as per media reports. Kasab's lawyer seems to have taught kasab the trick of the judiciary trade. He is now buying time very well. Just see the way his case is progressing. He declares in court that he is a juvenile. Then the onus was back on the government to prove that he is a matured adult and that he need not be tried under the children's act.Even DNA test was carried out to prove that he is an adult. But even if he is a child, nothing should stop the court from giving this child the death sentence for having done 100's of cold blooded murders and waging war against the nation.

Ajmal keeps demanding that he needs some cosmetics, newspapers, books etc. I hope the government does not go the extra mile to provide him his wish list in the name of humanitarian assistance. The expenditure on the tax payers money is the worst. The government has built a tunnel in arthur jail costing few crores. And crores of rupees are spent just to protect this ediot. The latest news is that he is giving smiles on many witnesses and prosecutors. Its pretty clear that ajmal kasab is laughing at the Indian government, its citizens and judiciary.

WHAT NEXT ????

After few months of arguments and counter arguments, the lower court may award him death sentence.I am sure kasab will argue that he is a pakistan national and that he cant be tried in india under indian laws. He may also argue that he must be tried as prisoner of war and be handed over to Pakistan. The very next step which he is likely to do after receiving the death sentence will be to appeal in the higher courts like mumbai high court and the supreme court. The moment he takes this route he will spend nothing less than a year in indian jail virtually not undergoing the punishment he deserves. Dont be surprised if Arundathi roay and her band of human right activists sit in front of the supreme court asking for cancellation of death sentence in the name of human rights.

FINAL SALVO ??

The final salvo that may happen is his mercy petition to the President of India. The president will forward it to the government and our home minister Mr Chidambaram will say that" Ajmal Kasab is in Q. He is next to Afzal Guru. His number is 29. Decision on previous 28 people have to be taken . Why did NDA which was in power did nothing to take action against the previous death punishments?.He may also include that BJP is trying to paint a communal color in this issue."

I get irritated so much whenever i hear these type of arguments from our Home minister. One last thing that may also happen is that afzal guru and ajmal kasab can be room mates in a jail and can share their experiences. Well they can write their experiences and publish a book.Had the companions of kasab knew that such a royal treatment is given in Indian jails, they too would have surrendered after their killing spree.

Iam sure that the terrorist elements in Pakistan will change their strategy from now. Why should they sacrifice their life unnecessarily when their chances of living a peacefull life is high after the terrorist attack. Anyway they know that the Indian state is neither capable of taking action against the terrorists nor against Pakistan which is home to them.

God , please help my country and our politicians

WHEN A SOLUTION BECOMES PART OF THE PROBLEM...

Various political parties are pondering the results of general elections 2009. One thing that is clear is that the people of India have given the Congress a mandate for a stable government to carry out economic reforms and improve the security environment of the country. Do not forget that the mandate is also for its social commitment policies like NREGA and other quota policies in education and employment.Well i am not going to analyze about the victory of the congress, rather i want to write about the principal opposition party, the BJP.

One can say very confidently that when the election process started few months back, it was the BJP camp that was bubbling with confidence. Mind the word confidence,it was not over confidence like 2004. The BJP had put up shri L K Advani as its Prime ministerial candidate. It came to the field with issues ranging from security, economic recession, afzal guru, black money, price rise etc.All these issues were directly or indirectly affecting the common man in one or the other form. But i was literally shocked to see that the party had performed worst than what any congress supporter would have thought in his dreams.

I stongly feel the common man failed to realize that the performance of the government from 2004-09 was below average, if not bad. Its performance was way behind that of NDA's 99-2004. The security, infrastructure and price raise were the three issues on which the government failed so miserably. Yet the people of India gave a mandate which it never deserved. Pro congress supporters keep lobbying that the people were too happy with the performance and wanted Dr Manmohan singh's government to carry forward the legacy. Its all scrap.

The simple fact is that the as the principle opposition party the BJP failed to take the issues to the people through its core support base. The use of internet, blogs, orkut and twitters simply do not work in indian elections. I was also one of the culprits in joining shri Advani's orkut community and wrote few blogs for him. The lesson that needs to be learnt is that the indian elections is all about field work in which the late pramod mahajan was a master. Iam sure the BJP is missing him very badly.

The important set of people, culprits sound too hard are the second rung leaders of the BJP. In the year 2004 and later, everbody in the BJP was proud over the fact that under Shri Vajpayee and Shri Advani, there were so many second rung leaders. All of them were simply outstanding in various roles that were assigned to them in governement and the party. But today the situation seems to be going from bad to worse. All of a sudden the second rung leadership seems to have become over ambitious and are criss crossing in other's domain very badly. The overall effect is they have badly damaged the party's image and reputation as party with a difference.

These second rung leaders should have been pillars of strength to the party and each should have cultivated a base for them in their respective state. But every few are worth for it and where ever they are, the party base has seen a constant decline. The best example are the states of Delhi and Uttar pradesh. In UP the party was in power at a high and over the years the decline has been so bad that it is in the fourth position, a position even behind the congress. I would even suggest that the BJP should give the state leadership of UP to Varun Gandhi if none of the second rung leadership is motivated enough to work for its revival.

In Delhi leaders like sushma swaraj, arun jaitley do not want to take over the reins and give a fight against the congress. They are happy to be in delhi, sit in the party's Ac rooms and keep addressing the media. In ground the party has continuously lost ground and seems nowhere in getting back to power.

In Rajasthan, the party came to power under Vasunundhara Raje with a thumping mandate. 5 years of total misgovernance has cost them dear and this state has been a important factor in the debacle of 2009 Lok sabha elections. The BJP is now about to overtake the congress which was once famous for infighting. Now the congress leaders are completely rallying behind the gandhi family and the resounding victories in many elections has eclipsed many infightings.

Another important issue where the BJP is not paying any attention is in improving its base in the southern states. I mean the states of tamil nadu, kerala and Andhra pradesh. I fail to understand why important roles are not given to S Thirunavukarasar in TN. He is one of the few leaders who has a clean image in the state. Loosing Rangarajan kumaramangalam was an unfortunate turning point in the history of BJP in TN. The party can get a vote share and seats only if it puts up some famous personalities. They should not rule out taking the help of film personalities also. Same applies for Andhra pradesh and kerala too.

None can deny the fact that Narendra Modi is here to play a stellar role in national politics in the coming years. Any groupism and infighting will surely spoil the vote bank which the party may gain by projecting him as the next leader. The RSS and sangh parivar must also realise that a cordial relationship between all these outfits will only bring the core votebank back to BJP. They must help the BJP in bringing the much needed discipline in the second rung leadership. A time bound action will only revive the fortunes of the safron party.

If the same infighting continues then the rule of TINA(There Is No alternative) will come into play. This policy is neither good for the country nor for its democracy.

9 May 2009

I always wanted to write a blog on my once favourite newspaper THE HINDU.Here is my story.

Needless to introduce,'THE HINDU' prides itself as India's National newspaper since the middle of the 18th century. The mount road maha vishnu, as it was once called by the Tamil Nadu rationalists is giving testing time to its readers who have been behind it for generations together. If i am not wrong i started reading this newspaper when i was studying fourth standard in the early 90's only on saturdays and sundays. I still remember the paper boy/man for whom i used to wait from 7 am to 9 am. Our house was the last for him in his distribution list.

My interest on this newspaper picked up slowly and i started reading articles, editorials very deeply . During the late 90's politics was not so communalized and secularized as it is now. Probably that may also be one of the reason why i feel that ' THE HINDU' today is more pseudo secular media than others. My all time favourite columnist was Mr C Rajamohan whose articles on strategic affairs was worth collecting. I don't know why he stopped writing for this newspaper later. Then in 98/99, I heard N Ram had taken over as editor-in-chief of the newspaper, till then i believe it was with Ms Malini parthasarathy.

The rise of BJP in the national politics seems to have made the media restless. THE HINDU is no exception to this. From the late 90's to till date there has been too much of issues, articles and criticisms on the BJP by the hindu. Writers like N Ram, Neen Vyas and Harish Khare have made all efforts in crushing the BJP under the roller of journalism (not certainly under the road roller). The BJP leaders couldn't do anything as they well knew that their foes in media by the likes of secular journalists Rajdeep sardesai, Bharka Dhatt only increased manifold and there was no point in cribbing.

The Hindu's ambitious and arrogant overdrive gave them their greatest trouble with AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa. The series of articles culminating with "Rising intolerance" criticized the then CM, her cabinet colleagues, the governance and the legislative actions. The criticisms were too much against a individual by any standards. True that a CM or any public servant is under public scrutiny. But taking revenge against an individual in the name of Journalism is uncalled for.

The drift in editorial standards coupled with the first page news becoming views pains a lot of its regular readers. Ask any body in mylapore(i assume this region to be core of hindu readers) they will tell you that they don't read the newspaper seriously anymore. In fact everyone knows that Ram is a card carrying communist. so naturally left news and views have started dominating the newspaper. Hindu may have the dubious distinction of being the only newspaper claiming that Tibet has prospered under the communist China.

I still fail to understand why this 4 th estate of journalism has double standards in all issues from corruption to secularism. None of the journalists open their pens against the injustice done to the nation on Bofor's scandal. It's clear in broad daylight that CBI has become the Congress Bureau of Investigation. The way Ottavio Quattrochi was let off the hooks should have raised a turmoil in the nation had the journalists been unbiased.

Then comes the important issue of riots. Today for the secularists and media , Gujarat/Godhra were the only riots that happened in this country. Nobody wishes to about the anti sikh riots which was also a similar catastrophe in all terms. The issue comes up only when there is something happening with the poor Jagdish tytler. Again the hindu's standard of comments on all these issues were far from satisfactory.

A newspaper which prides itself as a National newspaper since the 18 th century must take a holistic view on all issue irrespective of personalities and politics. Getting readers for a newspaper is the greatest task. still greater is to maintain the standards and retain the readers.Today as i write this article i strongly feel that THE HINDU has been constantly failing on both the counts. By failing it also looses a golden opportunity to shape the minds of the generation of 21st century.

Tamil Eelam in India- Not far away??

The country is busy in elections to elect the 15 th Lok sabha. As i see the various issues dominating the poll process, something seems to be missing very seriously. It is nothing but the issue of nationalism and the feeling of India. The issue of electing a strong, non-corrupt and efficient union government does not seem to bother anyone. Power hungry regional leaders have completely hijacked this lok sabha election and made it look like a municipal election.

Let me talk about the issue of Sri Lanka and LTTE in Tamil Nadu politics. Today almost all the parties have gone to the extent of supporting LTTE. Rewind the past to few months back where only the fringe elements like MDMK,PMK,VCK and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam supported LTTE and its call for separate eelam.

Today AIADMK and DMK have also jumped into the band wagon.DMK was non committal on this issue for sometime. But it indirectly supported these pro-LTTE organisations and its activities for the past few months. The poor law and order situation in TN is ample proof for that.I always admired Jayalalithaa and her bold views on the Sri Lankan issue. She was the one who always boldly expressed her views against LTTE and its call for separate eelam. What is the situation today?

It's completely reverse. She has called for a seperate eelam and has made a poll promise to create by sending the Indian Army if she comes back to power at the center. Her whole concept looks so stupid. People outside Tamil Nadu look the Tamil Nadu politicians like jokers. The indefinite 6 hour fast by the TN CM dented the image of tamilians all over India. The outside people think that all tamilians are eagerly involved in this issue. Not at all. The common man in TN sympathizes for the Sri Lankan tamils. That's it. That's the full stop. He is more worried about power cuts, poor infrastructure and of late his job security due to economic recession. The issue of power cut and price rise doesn't bother TN politicians any more. But the frustration of the common man increases when he feels that he has to select one of the two evils or its alliance partners.

The so called nationalist party called Congress is happy with High command,Manmohan singh,Rahul Gandhi, secularism, CBI and quattrocchi. It is least bothered about the disastrous consequences that events on TN are going to affect unified India later. I fail to understand why the talented and charismatic state congress Leaders like P Chidambaram and Manishankar Iyer are maintaining silence and play double game on an important national issue. Their stunning silence on an issue of a organization which killed a national leader and a former prime minster is not in good taste. BJP is nowhere in TN,but its recent flip flop on sri Lankan issue does not enhance its credibility and its call for stronger India.

The political leaders fail to realize that issue of Tamil eelam is no different from Kashmir issue. In both cases the call is for separate nation through violence and terrorism. In both cases the armed struggle is supported by non state actors. In the case of Kashmir the support is from Pakistan government too. Do not forget that we too trained LTTE.

Nothing stops Pakistan to proclaim that India and its leaders support terrorist activities i Sri Lanka. Nothing stops Pakistan to label the TN leaders as supporters of terrorism. This can be the worst embarrassment for India at any given time in our fight against terrorism. Very few national leaders worry about these. Even if they worry they maintain silence to win votes.

In a few days as LTTE crumbles in its own backyard, violence will be stepped up in TN. Just watch a bunch of idiots attacking our own army personnel and their vehicles.

We are no different from pakistan's Swat valley now.As usual the police are mute witness to the events. Once again i want to emphasis that today the nation lacks a single leader who stands for nationalism. All of them are for playing petty politics, reaping short term benefits and are destroying the pillars of our democracy.

As Eelam dreams fade away in Sri Lanka, time is not far away when the fringe elements will call for a separate nation of Tamil Eelam in India. There may be a call first to rename Tamil Nadu as Tamil Eelam very shortly. All the tamil diaspora settled happily in western countries will welcome this idea and will start contributing money for an armed struggle. Time is not far when the fringe elements who attacked the army in coimbatore will wage a armed struggle against them. Again take it from me, no political leader in TN will oppose this dangerous trend. Congress leaders will be waiting for orders from High command, by which it will be too late. A weak central government would definitely be caught unawares of the developments and a new nation called Tamil Eelam will rise and shock India.

POLITICAL KILLINGS AT KANNUR, KERALA

God’s Own country. That’s how the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation catches all its tourists to their beautiful backwaters and serine beaches. The state is not just famous for tourism, banana chips, and greenery . Of late political killings have wrecked a northern town of kerala. Many outsiders would not have heard the name of Kannur or cannanore as it was once called. Kerala was the first state to elect a communist government in the year 1957. Apart from the communists the other establishment that rules the state is the congress led UDF. Like DMK, ADMK in Tamil Nadu both LDF and UDF keeps ruling the state alternatively.

The Bharatiya Janata party has been a slow starter in the state but has got good influence in many pockets of the state. These include Palghat, Kasargod, Trivandrum and parts of Kannur. The entire team of RSS, BJP and other sangh parivar outfits exhibit a rare unity in fighting the political opponents. Today the fight between right wing and left wing has come to such dangerous proportions that peaceful life is beyond anybody’s dream in the region of Kannur and Thalaserry.

Every week there are major clashes between the two wings. The clashes are then followed by hartals declared by the parties and curfew orders by the police. The entire state machinery has virtually collapsed in controlling this blood path. One can find the cruelty by just typing Kannur violence in google images. Talks mediated between the two groups by the state administration have yielded a big zero. No human whoever it may be and whatsoever his ideology be, can never encourage or bear this violence which has claimed so many lives.

One more interesting fact about all these clashes are that the people who are killed are daily wage labourers and petty workers. They might be just workers of the party without any serious involvement. But they are killed to equal the other side’s loss. Both the LDF and UDF are turning a blind eye to this violence. Except for the local media, the national media which calls itself secular is silent. The so called Human right activists also never bother to visit or talk about human right to live in non-BJP ruled states.

Some body in the higher echelons of power needs to say that enough is enough before a foreigner says god’s own country has devil’s own people.

WHY CAN’T WE HAVE 4 DEPUTY PRIME MINISTERS ?

Other day I was watching cartoon network for a change. Tom and jerry, Laurel and Haurdy were all crossing my minds. Flipped the channels to see news. I was continuously reminded about elections and that, apart from Shri Advani and incumbent Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, there are a whole lot of serious contenders for the coveted post.

Shri Sharad Pawar has openly said that the nation needs to have a PM from Maharashtra. He could have still bluntly said that he wants to be PM at any cost. Then I realized that he still has to complete seat sharing talks with INC, contest and win elections and his party should have respectable number of MPs to threaten third front or congress to make him prime minister.

Going from west to east, I stumbled at Shri Ram vilas Paswan who heads his party Lok Jan shakti which has a reasonable representation from dalits only in the state of Bihar. Taking this to his advantage he has been sliding either with NDA or UPA, much like shri Ramdoss of PMK. Needless to say he has been union minister for quite some time. He can never contest elections individually knowing well the fact that he can never win except for a few negligible seats. So he has placed the motion that a Dalit needs to head the next government and that he is the best man for the post.

Not very far him is another winner of social engineering concept Ms Mayawati. The state of UP is the highest contributor to Lok sabha. The major contribution of UPto the nation starts and ends here only. The slogan “Road to delhi is through UP” is always valid. Having come to power in the state by a huge margin all alone, she knows that her party is definitely the king maker. So her party men have already started the campaign for the post of PM on her behalf. The third front leaders can’t make any noise at this stage knowing well that the much hyped front will be a zero if she deserts.

Down south things are lazy. The state of TN which was king maker in 2004 is yet to firm up alliances. No body knows where PMK is heading for? Even Mr Ramdoss doesn’t know for himself. So Ms Jayalalithaa has been pretty mute in her demand. She has informed the media that this issue will be decided after elections. Then everybody will know where exactly all the political parties have switched sides.

So my suggestion is, Let us have one Prime Minister and 04 deputy Prime ministers as follows
Prime Minister : ……………..

Deputy PM(North) : Kumari Mayawati
Deputy PM(East) : Shri Ram Vilas Paswan
Deputy PM(South) : Ms J Jayalalithaa
Deputy PM(West) : Shri Sharad Pawar

Any more contenders..

No problem. Indian railways has been mercilessly divided into various zones like central, south central, North western etc. So there are enough zones, vacancies and contenders.

GROW UP ..MR LALIT MODI

The secular media of the nation would have blasted off if such a thing was attempted by the other Modi(Gujarat CM). The whole issue of staging the IPL at this crucial junction is more than a controversy not required at this stage. None need to explain the fact that the nation is involved in a mammoth exercise of conducting elections from Himalayas to Kanyakumari and kutch to the land of rising sun. This huge exercise involving scores of political parties, leaders and crores of workers is huge by any standards. Remember we are the world’s biggest democracy and need to take pride in participating these elections. Successful conduct of elections peacefully is a key to the nation’s development.

I understand that we are a nation mad about cricket. True if cricket is my religion, sachin is my god. Wonderful if he hits a six against shane warne. No doubt, IPL was a block buster last year. The success is not just because of BCCI, spectators or the franchises. There are thousands of people who are working behind the scenes and never get the due credit or any monetary benefits. Yes iam talking about the security personnel of this country. Be it the armed forces, para military or the state police, they spend tireless days and sleepless nights for us.

Has Mr Modi ever thought of a day’s life of our security personnel. Apart from his routine office work in his police station he now needs to go for the election security. There is no timing for his duty. He comes hours before Sonia, Advani or Lalu come to the stage and leaves the place only after they leave. He stands in the hot sun hours together. No body bothers about his food, water and nature calls. He has to manage everything by himself. And on top of everything you want a series of cricket matches in the middle. Give him some rest man. He is also a human being like us. Sitting in a Air conditioned room you decide the schedule . Putting matches before and after elections just cannot solve this problem. Do I need to explain you that the terrorists can strike at any given place at any given time in the entire world. Of course see for yourself the Mumbai carnage and its aftermath. We are helplessly issuing statements against the Pakistani establishment and flying between Delhi and Washington.

Is it worth to take a risk at this stage? Any untoward incident will again dent the nation’s confidence and will be a huge loss not just for you but for our future cricket in India. We have to keep playing in neutral venues like Pakistan. The cascading effect will be felt on Commonwealth games due after a year. I really sympathize that your financial losses will be huge. But look at BCCI coffers. You are the richest board and your IPL is also recession proof. So let’s have IPL after some time. Putting the nation’s image at stake just for your monetary benefits is not a good option.

India’s troublesome neighborhood

India’s big brother role in the whole of south Asian subcontinent is becoming weak day by day. Our immediate neighbours are no more our friends. Very soon the nation can expect trouble from all these tiny nations. There is no need to explain about Pakistan. Every lay man in this country knows that we will have sleepless nights in the coming years.

Bangladesh’s political volatility is another headache. With sheikh hasina at the helm things looked better. But not after the deadly mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles which killed 80 army officers. Now the enemity between the two armed forces can go beyond the government’s control at the drop of a hat. Still worst is the fact that the death threat to Sheikh hasina.ISI is working overtime for her elimination. Such a nightmare would be a blow to the Indian dreams too.

Srilanka is not a dependable neighbour. If someone feels that it is listening politely to the Indian government, do have a rethink. They are not dependent on us for military equipments. They have good friendship with Pakistan and china. They provide much better weapons than what india provides. Pertinent to mention the point that Pakistan provided tons of arms and ammunitions from its reserves even during kargil war. Sri lanka even toured Pakistan till the famous 3/3 Lahore attack. But with no serious fatalities, the friendship is still high. Pakistan knows that the elimination of tigers from the lankan nation has strategic effects. It will be easy for Lankan Navy and Pakistan Navy to share strategic naval facilities and army bases which may come up in the erstwhile stronghold of LTTE. Now the whole of south India will be within its easy reach.

Nepal was the biggest insulator which India had between its boundary and china. But when the Hindu republic was shocked with a bloody in palace killings, little did people realize that more drama was to unfold later. The Maoists came to join the democratic process and formed the government too. Usually the prime minister of Nepal visits India first on his first overseas tour. But this time prachanda visited China. Now this Nepal government has also become pseudo secular. It hardly bothers about hindus and the controversy in pasupathinath temple is a shining example. So Nepal is no more in our control.

China has always been a threat, but is still cautious with India. It believes India can defend well alone incase of war unlike 1962 where it had nothing to defend. China is also well aware that US and other European countries are backing India to take on the Chinese threat. So the reason for china’s all weather friendship with Pakistan can well be understood. Its military might still gives butterflies in the Indian tummies. But we are the biggest headache for this asian big brother.

Myanmar is often not in the news. The military junta still listens to Indian advice and has acted upon the ULFA and some other northeast insurgent groups. This is the only reason why, India the biggest democracy is silent on democracy in Myanmar.

Bhutan is the only consolation for time being. This tiny nation is the true friend and we should be more than happy to help them for their needs.

Whoever forms the government post 2009 elections have a tough external task. Hope our citizens realize these facts and vote accordingly.
